Update as of February 13, 2023:

Due to the overwhelming response to the summit, we have reached capacity for the summit on Sunday, April 30. A “second showing” will be held on Wednesday, May 3, which will offer a repeat of the content for people who want to participate. For more information, please visit the ATLIS website.

The Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (ATLIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) will partner to co-host a day-long summit on leading education in the age of artificial intelligence on April 30 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is more than 60 years old, but recent advancements in generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Dall-e, and others  have created new challenges and opportunities for the education sector.

Summit attendees will gain a robust understanding of the current state of AI in schools, as speakers will present diverse perspectives on how AI is being used, and can be used, in independent school classrooms. The summit will also provide insights to help leaders understand the big issues around AI and how their schools can address them. NAIS and ATLIS aim to gather administration and technology teams to collaborate on innovative and effective solutions for integrating AI in education.

“Regardless of a school’s decision about how to address recent advancements such as ChatGPT, the widespread integration of OpenAI’s technology into other platforms means that all schools need to consider the pedagogical implications,” said Dr. Ashley Cross, ATLIS’s senior director of education and content. “We’re working together as a community to have tough conversations around bias, academic integrity, and the quickly evolving nature of this technology. This summit is an opportunity to bring together some of the greatest minds in our community to explore innovative ways that schools are utilizing AI in the classroom.

“Our current students will never live in a world where generative AI tools like ChatGPT are not available to them.  In fact, during the next several months they are likely to be embedded into the tools we use every day. Bringing together school leaders, including heads of school and technology directors, is crucial as we journey to build the schools our students need.” said Tim Fish, chief innovation officer of NAIS.

Independent school administrators, department leaders, technology teams, and faculty are encouraged to attend, and NAIS members are eligible for ATLIS member rates on the summit registration. Individuals may register for this summit alone, or consider attending the ATLIS Annual Conference which is happening concurrently with the Summit from April 30 through May 3.
