The ATLIS staff attended a cyber briefing today addressing the threats coming out of Russia. While Ukraine is under major attack right now, it is a worldwide issue.

Continue to focus on the fundamentals of cyber hygiene. While the sense of urgency has changed, how people are targeted has not. Focus your security training and communications on:

    • Passwords
    • Phishing
    • Updating

Let your school know these three steps will go a long way in protecting them. People are scared. Keep your communications calm, simple, and actionable.

Here were some of our big takeaways:

      • There is an uptick in the spread of misinformation
      • Spear phishing is increasing from hackactivists
      • Expect an increase in denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks
      • Focus on the fundamentals: Phishing, Passwords, Updating

If you need more help, ATLIS connects you to experts to keep you on the cutting edge. Join us in person in Orlando and take advantage of the cyber security track at the ATLIS Ignited conference. It's the best way to prepare your school and find a solid footing for yourself. Don't do it alone! Learn more about the conference.

If you have been struggling to get buy-in for multifactor authentication, it could be a good time to bring this up with your leadership team again. ATLIS has a cyber safety workshop that starts next Friday. It's not too late to register. In this workshop, you will learn how to put together a cyber response plan, map your network, navigate cyber insurance, put together a cyber team at your school and much more.

How are you communicating with your school constituents about cyber security? What are your best tips for reaching people at this point in the year?

Here's a Forbes article resource for you as well: The Cybersecurity Implications Of The Russia-Ukraine Conflict

"Immediately after the conflict broke out, suspected Russian-sourced cyber-attacks were observed over a 48-hour period at an increase of over 800%. U.S. cybersecurity agencies, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security have all shared high alerts covering threat levels, preparedness, and response."

As a reminder, if you haven't signed up yet, it's not to register for our cyber safety workshop this week. It's a very important topic right now, and we want the community to be prepared and confident in their cyber planning. I'm excited to see your faces later this week and learn together!

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that people look at the CYBERSECURITY & INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY AGENCY website  - https://www.cisa.gov/ - and subscribe to their email updates as they are highly informative and provide detailed, actionable steps for people to take to secure their environments better.

The State of New Jersey also has its own site that draws on this information and its own programming  - https://www.njhomelandsecurity.gov/home. It is worth seeing if your State has a similar site within their Homeland Security office.

      Excellent resource.

Part of our process when hit with social engineering attacks was to report them to this site.

      Thanks, William!
