Hi there, in the case of our Middle School students, tech currently hand-deliver credentials with their laptops in August. However, we are a Microsoft school and are looking to implement passwordless very soon using resources like this: (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/education/deploy/protect-passwordless-students?tabs=windows). For all other students, tech uses Bitwarden Send to deliver passwords using expiring access to either parent or personal accounts (link in email).
We have SSO configured with Blackbaud and Microsoft as the IdP, so there is no additional communication about access other than to note that it's the same credentials for logging in. All communication happens in August upon return.

Subject: How best to share incoming student their email credentials?
The Tech Department is in the middle of conversations with our Admissions department. I'm seeking input and best practices on the following:
- Who gives new students their school email address and PW? Which department shares this with students in grades 7-12? (We do it in person for students in grades 6 and under)
- Who communicates instructions for accessing the LMS? (For us, by giving the student her gmail login info, she will now have access to our LMS (Blackbaud), so access instructions are also included in this communication.)
- How is this information shared and to whom? Email? Paper? Snail Mail?
- When is this student info shared for your school?
Thanks
Betsy
