    Good day all!

My school currently is using Follett/Destiny for our library management system. It seems to run fine on our computers, however, we're looking at switching to iPads in the library for our younger students to go in using a touch screen. The Destiny Discover app seems pretty "not user friendly" and we're looking at either using Safari and the website as a workaround or potentially changing platforms (to which our librarian fully supports). Would anyone be willing to share insight or other platforms that you may be using and whether or not you like those platforms? We, like all other schools, are looking for the best possible solutions that would benefit our student's ability to quickly access our library resources. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks.

HI Scott - not sure if you meant switching away from Follett when you said "other platforms," but that's what we did. We were long time Destiny users and moved to Oliver about 18 months ago. So much more student engagement, even with the youngest iPad users. No regrets on the switch as it's SO much better for our particular set of patrons.

Note: we don't do any book ordering from Follett, so the move was solely about the software.

    Sheldon.

Thanks for the response Sheldon! We'll certainly spend some time looking into this platform. Initially, it looks pretty user friendly and I know our librarian will be open to new ideas. I appreciate your response. Have a great day!

We also use Follett/Destiny at our PK-6 school.  We are very happy with it and stopped using the app many years ago.  I actually thought they pulled it from the store, but I guess not.  Their directions usually say to just use the web link.  I install it as a shortcut so it looks like an app on our library circulation iPads and it works great.  We are using the Destiny Discover interface and it is very easy for the students.  This is what it looks like for our school.  We used to have Alexandria and we like Follett much better, but that's just my two cents.

Thanks for your response Melika. I appreciate you sharing what it looks like at your school. Since we're toying around with the idea of using iPads, I'll set one up and show it to our media specialist to see what she thinks. Enjoy your day!

The one positive nod I will give the iPad app is as a check-out kiosk. We have one setup on a document cam stand so students can place books under, and the camera reads the barcode. For that it seems to work well. We had an issue for a while where the app was totally broken due to our iPads being on too new of IOS. That was a new one for me.

We use Follett and moved to iPads for checkout and catalog use a few years ago. For student use , we just use the regular catalog interface in a browser on the iPad. We use the Follett Destiny App on an iPad for self checkout. However, our students are grades 5-12, so we don't need to worry so much about the little ones.
