  • 1.  The Social Institute: Anyone Using

    Posted 03-06-2024 03:42 PM

    Good afternoon all~

Our school just signed up to use the Social Institute (I just found out yesterday), and I'm wondering if anyone uses it at their school.  If so, any thoughts to share regarding:

    1) Privacy concerns?

    2) What has your experience with the platform been like?

    3) Could you let me know if you passed all the links they requested through your firewall's web filter? I am a bit concerned about some of these as I have yet to receive a great response on how these are being used within the platform, specifically SurveyMonkey.

Any other insight or feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time!

    Hi Amanda,

We have been partnering with the Social Institute for 5 years now and I can't say enough good things about it! First, Laura Tierney and her team are incredible. They put so much time and effort into making TSI relevant, engaging and something that meets the needs of not only students but their families and educators. We have adapted when and where we run the lessons over the years and continue to be impressed and very happy with the investment in the program.

    In answer to your questions:

    1) Privacy concerns?

I don't have any- when student run TSI lessons it is anonymous and they are a company that believes in transparency. They have recently added an "Insights" feature which summarizes that anonymous data into some really interesting infographs and I find to be informative and something I can share with our admin team.

    2) What has your experience with the platform been like?

The platform is fantastic. I can count maybe 2-3 times over the last 5+ years that something happened or did not work exactly the way it should, but overall it is interactive and engaging for the students as well as a very "turn-key" experience for anyone running the lessons.

    3) Could you let me know if you passed all the links they requested through your firewall's web filter? I am a bit concerned about some of these as I have yet to receive a great response on how these are being used within the platform, specifically SurveyMonkey.

Yes we did. As far as I know, Survey Monkey is used for the beginning and end of year surveys which then allow you to receive helpful information about your student population (favorite apps, age when they received a phone, etc.). I give parent workshops regularly and they love to hear about this type of data.

Happy to chat more if it is at all helpful.
