  • 1.  Use of 3rd Party Consultants to Help Design Comprehensive School Climate Survey

    Our school is looking to conduct a comprehensive school climate survey that will serve us not only as a foundation for our accreditation needs, but also to get feedback on a variety of other topics and areas within the school.

    I know enough to understand that the design of this survey is critical in order to be able to get the feedback we want to answer. 

    Have any of your schools worked with a 3rd party consultant to help you build a survey of this type that you would be willing to recommend?

    Hi Vinnie!

    At my school, this year we've done a lot of school climate surveys within our community.  For students, we worked with our partner Challenge Success; for employees, we did an in-house Google survey, and for parents, we worked with (Independent School Management) ISM.  From what I understand, we've been happy with the types of data we've received from all three.

    We contracted with the Johns Hopkins Institute of Education Policy to do our school culture survey last school year.  I wasn't involved with the process but I believe they did the whole thing, from designing the survey to tabulating results and providing reports for both community and administrative consumption.

    The NAIS Satisfaction surveys are cheap, and valuable because they provide a "Benchmark/Trend Report" where you can see how your school's results compare with the averages across a like group of schools.

    Vinny - Our Upper School has used the GLSEN survey before - https://www.glsen.org/ - and they are planning on using it again in the coming year.
