    Hi everyone,

Collectively, the school(innovation team and faculty) created a Technology Student Scope and Sequence(see attachment) based on the Student ISTE Standards. The next step is to see how students actually perform on these goals. This is why I am reaching out to you all. What have you put in place to ensure at least 80% student body has developed or is proficient in the skills at their grade level? We do not have computer classes, as teachers are expected to integrate these skills. Our innovation coaches and media specialists focus on computational thinking, engineering, and digital citizenship. Teachers are responsible for the rest.

Do you have a student benchmark formative assessment?
Do you have a teacher benchmark evaluation?
What action plan do you have at your school?

I am curious to hear your thoughts!

    Good afternoon Inge!
It's great to see your finished document-- what a fantastic scope and sequence you have. I'm the PreK-4 Innovation Coordinator at The Kinkaid School and would love to chat more about this. We don't currently have an official student benchmark evaluation, although I've toyed with that idea. I always feel that if the projects are robust enough, you'll be able to tell if kids can perform the skills.  Our students do tech presentations for families in a "fair" style during several points in Lower School.  These projects always contain MANY of the skills practiced throughout Lower School. I unofficially think of the fourth grade projects as "Capstones" so to speak.  I look forward to following this discussion as I think a tech skill assessment a few times a year may be beneficial, but I struggle to think about what that could look like without becoming too cumbersome. Looking forward to hearing more!

    Hi Inge,

This is a great scope and sequence, it's very comprehensive, yet succinct! I'm curious what the process was to get to this point, since you mentioned it was collaborative. We have a scope and sequence, but have struggled with pulling everyone in to make it more collaborative, useful, and actionable.

At a previous school, we implemented a 9-12 scope and sequence. Part of this involved a summative assessment that required a certain level of proficiency. If a student did not reach that, we would enter a process of remediation. It was so long ago, the assessment no longer exists (I recall checking a few years ago). In retrospect, it was not really the best way to implement and assess the scope and sequence, but it was the best we could do at the time with the resources we have.

What sort of integration models do your integrationists use? I'm curious since we focus on the same areas with our integrationists. One thing that always concerns me in our approach to having teachers work on the rest is that it can be up to the interests (or lack of interests) of the teachers.

    Take care,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,

To get to the scope and sequence, we have now:

First, I looked at what other schools had. The innovation team adapted it to our school since they've been in the trenches. Then, we called a faculty meeting and broke up into random small groups, and each group took a section to see if what was in the columns should be included on the sheet or not. They left comments on the document. Next, I consolidated the info and sent it back to the teachers. Lastly, grade levels looked at the skill rating and decided if it needed to be introduced, developing, or proficient.

Our innovators focus on engineering and computational ISTE standards. The media specialist focuses on digital citizenship, and the idea is that teachers focus on the rest of the standards.

The innovators created a scope and sequence for the three-year-olds to G5, using the different tools we have available. We hope to hold an innovation playground during a faculty meeting, so teachers can walk into their respective rooms and see all the tools different grade levels use. We want to show it and then teachers will hopefully use them in their teaching practice.

That's where we are right now:) Let me know if you would like to know more.

    Hi all!

I’d love to connect more about them with other ATLIS members. We’re beginning to explore moving in this direction ourselves, and I’d love to hear from other schools what was successful in your experience.

    Cheers,
    Louis
