When Montclair Kimberley Academy launched our 1:1 program, one of the key considerations was how would the support spaces look. The tech "office" was the typical dungeon-like room where there would be machines, stacks, and parts everywhere, which made for a maze to navigate to talk to someone.
When reenvisioning the spaces, we wanted to create an open, welcoming environment where people could come in to not only get the help they needed but feel comfortable and generally want to hang out. These spaces would have both tech and ed tech helps desks, small group instruction areas, comfortable furniture, and access to coffee, water, and other tech office staples (diet Coke).
This thoughtfulness of space is evident in our Middle and Upper Schools Tech Centers. These Centers are the hub for tech and ed tech-related learning support.
During a recent redesign of our Upper School Library, now known as our Academic Center, the Tech Center was included in the design to provide immediate support to students and faculty within the school's learning hub.
Attached are pictures of our Middle School (1) and Upper School (3) spaces. I will be happy to share more with whoever is interested and should be attending the event on Wednesday.

Subject: Making tech spaces inviting: share your tips and photos
What do you do to make your technology office more inviting? Is there anything special (intentional) about the physical setup of that space?
What about your makerspace/innovation lab? What is your biggest tip on making that space functional?
Share your tips (and photos!).
p.s. join ATLIS next Wednesday for Meetup of the Minds: Exploring Tech Spaces. Don't forget to register!
